CABI Headquarters
Bespoke glazing and atria partitions for a new, low carbon global headquarters
Architect: Scott Brownrigg
Main Contractor: Barnwood Construction
CABI, the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, have moved into their brand new bespoke global headquarters for the organisation in Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Sitting in an area of outstanding natural beauty, this unique office development by architects, Scott Brownrigg, has been built with a low impact design and a strong emphasis on low carbon. The complete development incorporates energy-saving measures above current Building Regulations standards.

Eco Friendly Design
The completion of the project in 2020 means that the design foreshadowed the shift in priorities for office space users who, due to Covid-19, have placed increased importance on clean air. With natural ventilation as a key design factor, the building has a traffic light system, to advise when the building is too hot or has insufficient fresh air. This function prompts users to open windows, thus providing a natural, healthy and safe environment.
Sleek, Chic & Unique
The new corporate office also features a photo-voltaic solar array system to harvest the sun’s energy, an extensive lightweight sedum green roof and a curtain wall system to allow for natural ventilation. Rooflights allow natural light into the building, which continues to flow throughout by clever use of the atria glazing and glazed partitions which were installed by Lusso.

Workplace Envy
Whilst the outside of the building has been designed to be unobstrusive, allowing it to blend into its environment, internally the design has certainly been given the wow factor. Lusso’s glazed partitions add a touch of class to the modern contemporary look. A glazed atrium has been installed with stunning affect and glazed partitions provide a 2,500sqm of workspace which incorporates a café restaurant, meeting rooms, and conference room/auditorium. This state-of-the-art headquarters is certainly fitting for an international organisation which will be visited by both guests and staff from around the world.
